Alia Aldahlawi has been a member of the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, or Shoura Council, since December 2016.

Aldahlawi received her bachelor’s degree in 1988 and her master’s degree in 1998 in biological sciences from King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) in Jeddah.

In 2005, she obtained her Ph.D. in health and life sciences from King’s College London, UK.

Aldahlawi served as professor at KAU for nine years, teaching immunity, serology, and general microbiology, among other courses.

She began her career in 2007 as supervisor of the microbiology department at the Faculty of Science at KAU until 2009.

Later, she was promoted as vice dean of student affairs at KAU, a position she held until 2014.

Aldahlawi also worked as an emergency and disaster coordinator at KAU from 2011 to 2014. She was assigned in 2013 to the role of general supervisor of assessment and evaluation administration until 2016.

Since 2010, Aldahlawi has been the head of the immunology unit she founded at the King Fahad Medical Research Center.

Leaders from the G20 on Thursday held a videoconference chaired by King Salman to “advance a coordinated global response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and its human and economic implications.”

Earlier, Aldahlawi said: “The extraordinary initiative undertaken by King Salman is critical, as the world is going through a major crisis with this pandemic, one that we have never seen the likes of before.”

“At the present time, a global coordinated response in cooperation with all health agencies and institutions must put standards in place to confine the spread, reduce infection rates and gain control over the pandemic,” she added.
